To have a Quincanera or to have a Sweet 16? This is the question more and more Latin American teenagers are asking themselves these days.  On one side the Quinceanera is a traditional, coming of age, event for a young girl filled with choreographed dances, symbolic formalities, and near wedding like planning which is celebrated on the girls 15 th birthday. These tend to be more “family- centric” parties and adhere to Latin traditions and formalities. On the other hand is the modern day American Sweet 16. A more “friend-centric” event filled with dancing, entertainment, and less formalities and is obviously celebrated on the girls 16 th birthday.  These tend to be more of an all out party rather than a celebration of a life event.

Having these options tends to create a friends vs. family debate.  Do I want a traditional party with a ton of formalities or do I want an all out birthday bash like the rest of the girls my age are having?  How can I incorporate both? Can I incorporate both? The answer is simple! Modern and professional entertainment companies, like Mystical Entertainment, understand the dilemma previously described. They take into account the families need and desire to adhere to time honored cultural traditions while understanding the modern American teenager wants an amazing, fun filled, party! With meticulous planning and attention to detail your big event can have the perfect combination of both tradition and modern entertainment ensuring everyone is happy and no detail is left out. *Tip: Start by skipping less popular Quinceanera formalities like the doll ceremony. The doll ceremony is when the girl celebrating the Quinceanera presents a doll to the next girl to celebrate their Quinceanera. Instead have your MC lead a line dance to get the dance set started and create interaction between friends and family.  Yes, you can have your cake and eat it too!

There are many things to take into consideration when planning a Quinceanera or Sweet 16 but you don’t have to go at it alone! Just speak to the event specialists at Mystical Entertainment and they will help you every step of the way.
