If you are getting started with your wedding plans, the most important tool in your arsenal will undoubtedly by a wedding planning checklist.  This type of wedding planner will help you get organized and ensure that everything gets done in the proper time and sequence.

A wedding preparation checklist simply lists all of the things that need to be purchased ordered and reserved.  You could also think of it as a wedding planning timeline.  The most traditional begin 18-24 months prior to the wedding and list every single task that needs to be done, and when it needs to be done, to ensure a perfect and stress free wedding day.  You can find a printable wedding planning checklist at many bridal websites, in bridal magazines, in bridal books, and in wedding directories.

In many cases, weddings are not planned 18 months in advance, and if this is the case, you will need to edit your wedding planning guide, sometimes extensively.  No matter what though, make sure your wedding planner remains organized and in line with your own time frame and wedding needs.  This is critical to ensuring the least amount of stress leading up to your wedding day.  For example, you don’t want to forget about your wedding invitations and then find that they can’t be printed in time to send out.

The great thing about these checklists is that they are so easy to use.  Simply complete a task and check it off!  Plus, you can see at a glance what needs to still be done, making it easy to delegate some tasks to friends or family members and then follow up with them.  You can even use them to help wedding planning on a budget by crossing off things you feel are too expensive or unnecessary for your perfect wedding day.

Brides can take advantage of many different tools to help plan a wedding, but none is as valuable as a good checklist.  They are critical for keeping organized and can even be split up into smaller checklists as the wedding day approaches and all the small loose ends need to be tied up.  For example, you might have a separate checklist simply for the wedding dresses to ensure that everyone in the bridal party gets fitted and tailored in a timely fashion.

Once you have the perfect checklist, feel free to print it out and share it with your fiancée, your family, and the bridal party.  You can provide them with updated copies each month (or week as the date draws nearer), and use it to request help when necessary.  Also, make sure you keep a copy of the original checklist just in case.
